Municipal Website Migration

Leave a rented website platform for a site your county owns

We move counties, cities, townships, and special districts onto a website they own, with every page, document, and old web address carried over, and accessibility built in from the start.

Who This Is For

Counties, cities, townships, and special districts whose public website sits on Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, an aging WordPress site, or a hosted government platform coming up for renewal.

Staff struggle to update it

Updates depend on one person, a vendor ticket, or a builder that was never designed for public notices, meetings, and departments.

The content cannot easily leave

Some hosted platforms offer no way to export pages and documents into another system. That makes every renewal harder to walk away from.

Accessibility is an open question

The ADA Title II deadline applies to your website regardless of who hosts it, and most legacy municipal sites have never been measured.

What a Migration Includes

Based on what we delivered for Chippewa County.

  • A site audit up front: an inventory of pages, documents, images, and embedded content, plus an accessibility baseline of your current site.
  • Information architecture and navigation for the new site, including merging more than one site into one.
  • Migration of pages, documents, and images, with a redirect for every old URL.
  • A content management system with role-based permissions and a Draft, Review, Publish workflow.
  • Staff training and help documentation.
  • Accessibility validation, with a closure document that states how the site was tested.
  • AI-drafted alt text, captions, and document titles across every image and document, reviewed before they go live.
  • Managed hosting and support.

How It Works

1
Audit and baseline

We inventory every page, document, image, and embed on your current site and record an accessibility baseline, so the starting point is documented before work begins.

2
Information architecture

We design the navigation and page structure of the new site with your staff, merging sites where you have more than one.

3
Migration with redirects

Pages, documents, and images move into the new site, and every old URL redirects to its new page, so bookmarks, printed links, and search results keep working.

4
Review

Your staff review the migrated site before launch. Decisions about your content stay with you.

5
Cutover

Your IT team stays in control of your domain throughout the switch to the new site. It never leaves your hands.

6
Training

Your staff learn to publish on the new site, with help documentation to come back to after launch.

Every page, every document, every old address, carried over.

The Accessibility Deadline, Stated Plainly

Under the DOJ's ADA Title II rule, as extended in April 2026, state and local governments with 50,000 or more residents must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA by April 26, 2027. Smaller governments and special districts have until April 26, 2028.

The extension is not a pause. The DOJ stated that the underlying Title II obligation continues. The deadline is closer than it looks, and a migration is a natural point to start from an accessible foundation.

Chippewa County, Michigan

Chippewa County went live on October 19, 2026. Two Wix sites, the County site at chippewacountymi.gov and the Health Department site at chippewahd.com, became one site the County owns.

Every old URL was carried over with a redirect, and County IT kept control of its own domain through the cutover.

How Pricing Works

Every migration is a fixed price. The price is scoped by page count, document count, number of sites merged, and source platform, and is confirmed after the Discovery Call.

A county merging two sites and a township moving one are different jobs, so we do not publish a single municipal price. Additional modules are scoped as separate add-ons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Your content and your domain belong to your government, and your IT team keeps control of the domain before, during, and after the move. We provide managed hosting and support as a service.

Every old URL gets a redirect to its new page. Links in old emails, printed materials, and search results keep working after launch.

That is common with hosted site builders. When a platform offers no export, we recover the content from the pages visitors see, capture each page with its documents and images, and rebuild it as structured content in the new site. That is how Chippewa County's content left Wix.

Yes. Each person gets a role with the right permissions, and pages move through Draft, Review, and Publish before they go live. Every migration includes staff training and help documentation.

We record an automated accessibility baseline of your current site before work starts. At the end of the project you receive a closure document that states how the new site was tested. If your procurement requires an independent third-party audit, we scope it as a separate line item.
